Welcome!
The tiny, often insignificant elements of the natural world particularly slow decay have always fascinated me. Be it mummified remains, in limbo for millennia, a rotting branch over a period of years or, fungi fruiting and devolving in a matter of days.
I strive to instil this 'life' into my work through the utilisation of a variety of materials and techniques. As a canvas for my work, I chose to carve miniature sculpture and netsuke, a Japanese art form of functional sculpture small enough to fit comfortably in the palm of one's hand.
Each piece, though small in size, when held and examined closely, reveals a wealth of fine detail. Illusions such as that of rusted metal surfaces, decaying wood, and frayed stitching, created by the use of different materials and carving techniques bring forth the element of realism in each piece.
You can get introduced to my work on my "Gallery" page.
